Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists provide anesthetics for surgical, obstetrical and trauma care for operations and procedures that range from transplant to child birth. CRNAs practice with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, and these advance-practice nurses are compensated accordingly.
Established in 1945, UC's Nurse Anesthesia program is the fourth oldest in the United States and is ranked No. 11 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Students receive support from 15 dedicated didactic and simulation faculty and more than 80 clinical faculty. In addition, our program offers a variety of experiences at clinical sites within 45 miles of the university (many within walking distance), including a level I trauma center, high-risk obstetric unit, one of the nation's top pediatric hospitals and multiple outpatient surgery centers and community hospitals.
Our Nurse Anesthesia DNP program faculty speak at the state, national and international level and lead by example, serving on state and national boards, committees and taskforces. Faculty foster a supportive, team-oriented environment and strongly encourage our students to lead by serving on AANA national and state committees, attending state and national meetings and giving podium and poster presentations.

UC's Nurse Anesthesia DNP program is designed for nurses with a BSN.
Nurses with an MSN or DNP in another specialty can enter the program and receive transfer credit for select courses — depending on when the course was completed and the final grade.
The college accepts transfer credit from other accredited nursing programs. Students apply for advanced-standing credit after confirmation into the DNP in Nurse Anesthesia program and transfer credit approval is subject to the program specialty director or coordinator.
Nurses with an MSN in Nurse Anesthesia can earn a DNP through UC's Post-MSN DNP online program, which does not require additional anesthesia practicum hours.
The BSN to DNP in Nurse Anesthesia program requires 36 months (nine semesters) of full-time study. Clinical time and responsibilities begin in the third semester and gradually increase throughout the program.
Required curriculum and clinical experiences for degree pathways other than BSN to DNP vary based on students' previous program of study.
